Workload per semester
Full-time students must register for a minimum of TWELVE (12). Students who wish to take more than EIGHTEEN (18) credits have to seek approval from the Dean of the Faculty and would not be allowed to take more than TWENTY-TWO (22) credits in a semester.

One transcript will be mailed to the Home University’s Exchange Program Advisor approximately one month after the end of the exchange period. There will be a charge for additional transcript copies.
Is on-campus accommodation available to exchange students?
You will be guaranteed on-campus accommodation, offered upon request only. The rate for a room may vary by each College and room type, but the minimum rate is RM20/day (excluding the 6% Goods and Services Tax). Students will be placed to any room subject to approval and availability. The on-campus accommodation for postgraduate international students is very limited and available on the first-come first-served basis. Single students will have to stay in a twin-sharing room if single rooms are unavailable.
Exchange students may also opt to rent private apartments off-campus, located within 3 to 5 km radium from UTM. Contacts of off-campus housing will be given upon request.
When can exchange students move in to the Hall of Residence?
Students are required to arrive in UTM 3 days before official orientation program starts.
All inbound students MUST apply for a Single Entry Visa (SEV) from the Malaysian Embassy in their home country before entering this Malaysia. Applications for the SEV is done after we receive a Visa Approval Letter (VDR) from the Malaysian Immigration Department. Applications for the VDR letter should be made after receiving an offer from UTM. UTM will provide assistance with the visa application.
Students who will join the study abroad/student exchange program for LESS than 6 months MUST apply for Professional Visit Pass upon arrival in UTM.
Students who will join the study abroad/student exchange program for MORE than 6 months MUST apply for Student Pass upon arrival in UTM.
UTM will help students to apply for the Professional Visit Pass/Student Pass after their arrival.

All students must have international health insurance before they leave their home university. The insurance should cover personal accident, inpatient treatment, repatriation, and death.
When should I arrive?
Students are required to arrive in UTM 3 days before official orientation program starts. If student arrives during our office hours (Sunday to Wednesday, from 8.00am to 5.00pm and Thursday, from 8.00 am to 3.30 pm), please go to UTM International for registration information as following address:

If student arrives after office hours or on off-day (Friday and Saturday), UTM International will leave student’s room key at UTM Security Office with a welcoming note for student’s information on registration.

There is no pick-up service available.
Is there any bank on campus?
Yes, please visit the UTM Banking Facilities website for a list of banks.
ESTIMATED COST OF LIVING
The UTM main campus is located in Johor Bahru and UTM's Kuala Lumpur campus is located in central Kuala Lumpur. So, the cost of living between both campuses might be different. A range between USD 500 - 800 per month is sufficient enough to pay for a hostel, meals and transportation in both cities.
